The Science Behind the Stitch

Every choice we made, and why.

We didn’t pick fibers or finishes because they sounded nice. Each one earned its spot because the dermatology research said so.

Sustainably sourced wood pulp fiber with a naturally smooth surface. Dermatology research consistently shows lower friction and lower TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss) versus standard cotton.
Enough give to move with you and enough recovery to hold its shape. A shirt that binds at the shoulder or waist is a shirt that rubs all day.
Industry-standard seams have raised edges where two pieces of fabric meet — a known friction trigger for eczema-prone skin. Flat-lock construction lays the stitch flush, eliminating that pressure point.
Polyester care tags are one of the most-reported contact irritants in clinical eczema research. We print care info directly into the fabric instead — zero tags, zero scratch points.
Every SOS tee is pre-washed before it ships. You get full-shrink, full-soft fabric on day one — not after months of breaking it in.
Free of Irritants

What’s NOT in the SOS tee.

We test against the most common contact irritants. SOS is built without any of them — here’s the receipts.

Common fast-fashion dye chemistry, well-documented as a contact irritant. SOS uses only certified non-AZO, low-impact dyes.
Used in some textiles for wrinkle resistance. SOS uses zero formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing finishes.
SOS is built on SkinSmart™ Lyocell — no crazy scratchy polyester blend here.
Polyester care tags are one of the most-cited contact irritants in eczema clinical literature. We print care info directly into the fabric.
No added fragrances, no “fresh-scent” softeners. Fragrance compounds are some of the most common atopic dermatitis triggers.
Stilbene-based optical brighteners are added to many textiles to make whites “whiter.” They’re also documented skin sensitizers. Not in SOS.
Residual bleach can linger in cotton fabric for the first dozens of washes. SOS uses peroxide-based bleaching only — gentler on skin and water systems.
